Suaré (Virginie) DEMBELE er en malisk musiker og sanger, der stammer fra Bo-regionen i Ségou-området og San-kredsen (beliggende i det sydøstlige Mali).

Suaré blev udvalgt som kunstner fra det dansk-faciliterede Spot on Mali-festival 2024 og er blevet inviteret til Danmark for at optræde på SPOT Festival i Aarhus 2025.

Med sit band præsenterer hun musikken og traditionerne fra sit folk. Med en fantastisk energi, en smuk stemme og et særligt instrument, som hun selv bygger – en blanding af en guitar og det traditionelle ngoni – fanger hun publikum med autenticitet og intensitet.

Hun fornyer traditionerne og udfordrer kønsrollerne i Mali som instrumentalist. Hendes drøm er at blive den næste internationale stjerne fra Mali. Hun har studeret sang ved Fondation Passerelle, som er grundlagt af den maliske superstjerne Rokia Traoré. Under sine studier sang hun i kirkekor og spillede i forskellige bands, og hurtigt dannede hun sit eget orkester med store ambitioner. Snart løftede hun sin karriere til et professionelt niveau.

Musikere over hele verden kæmper for deres karrierer, og overalt tales der om de kønsmæssige udfordringer for kvinder i branchen. I Mali er udfordringerne endnu større – både kulturelt, politisk og økonomisk. Det kræver en stærk kvinde at insistere på sin ret til at spille musik og forfølge sine ambitioner.

Suaré Virginie Dembele Singer & Guitarist

Suaré (Virginie) DEMBELE is a Malian musician and singer who hails from the Bo region in the Ségou area and the San circle (located in the southeast) of Mali.

Suaré became the selected artist from the Danish facilitated Spot on Mali festival 2024 to be invited to Denmark to play SPOT Festival in Aarhus 2025. So now we are planning a tour around her Performance in Aarhus.

With her band she presents the music and the traditions of her people. With a great energy, a beautiful voice and a special instrument that she builds herself, a mix of a guitar and the traditional instrument ngoni, she captures the audience with authenticity and intensity. She renews the traditions, and she challenges the gender expectations in Mali as an instrumentalist. Her dream is to become the new international star from Mali. She had vocal studies at Fondation Passerelle which is founded by the Malian superstar Rokia Traoré. While studying she attended church Choirs and different bands and quit rapidly, she formed her own orchestra with high ambitions, and soon she raised her carrier to a professional level. Musicians all over the globe fight for their carriers and everywhere we talk about the gender challenges as a woman in the business. In Mali the difficulties are even more challenging both culturally, politically, and financially. It takes a strong woman to insist on her right to play music and be ambitious. Spot on Mali festival will support Suaré Virginie Dembele with this tour.
